about

There are so many cultural and musical links between the music of the Shona people in Zimbabwe and the Bantu influenced rhythms of Cuba that it seemed natural to bring them together in a track. The clapping is so evocative of both traditions and the Arara and Guiro beats fit comfortably into the driving 6/8 of the complex mbira parts evoking trance and ancestral connections.
The tune Chinyanyanga is from the playing and compositions of William Chirauro of Chiriseri near Harare. I have played this to William and he does approve :)

You can hear and buy his music here on bandcamp and also learn the mbira yourself from his tutorial!
