Back in 2013 myself and Chartwell Dutiro, the renowned mbira player and singer, were recording an album of mbira and song with concertina. He had always been fascinated by the sound and there had once been a Shona concertina tradition now sadly died out but still audible in a few rare recordings. We were both also keen to bring our own traditions together and, from my background of Irish traditional music Tobin's Jig came forward as a possible candidate for merging the 6/8 feel of both musics. An mbira part, song, concertina arrangements and percussion accompaniment followed and this track was born.
